The Philippines looks to build on the momentum of its historic silver finish in the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women's Asia Cup as it seeks to return to the World Cup after eight years.
Gilas Pilipinas Women will vie for a ticket to the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup through the qualifying tournament set for April 11 to 12 in Singapore.
The Filipina cagers must finish among the top three teams to qualify for the tournament scheduled from June 1 to 7 in Warsaw, Poland. The Philippines last appeared in the annual basketball showpiece in 2018, when it hosted the event and finished 17th.
Gilas, world no. 19, enters Pool B as the top seed, followed by host Singapore and Brazil, which are ranked 20th and 62nd, respectively.
In Pool A, Hungary leads the field at 13th, followed by Lithuania (world no. 22) and Egypt (world no. 37).
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the knockout stages.
Semifinal winners will qualify for the World Cup, as well as the winning side in the losers' final between the two losing semifinalists.
The Philippines secured a place in the qualifiers as one of the highest-ranked teams that have yet to qualify for the World Cup.
Gilas Women's 3x3 head coach Anton Altamirano will retain Asia Cup All-Star Team member Afril Bernardino, Kacey Dela Rosa, and Mikka Cacho for the qualifiers, according to a Tiebreaker Times report.
Tantoy Ferrer will replace Cheska Apag in the lineup.
The team returns home on Monday, April 6, before departing again on Thursday, April 9.
Gilas reached the Asia Cup final for the first time on Sunday, April 5, marking the program’s best finish in the continental tournament.
