The Philippine women's national football team confirmed its place in the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup after overcoming Uzbekistan, 2-0, during the play-in round of the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup on Thursday, March 19, at the Gold Coast Stadium in Australia.

‎‎

‎It will be their second trip in a row to the quadrennial showpiece, following a maiden appearance in 2023.

‎Veterans Angie Beard and Jaclyn Sawicki delivered the second-half goals the Filipinas needed after a scoreless opening 45 minutes.

‎Both have donned the Philippine jersey when they upset host New Zealand for the country's first-ever World Cup win. They could run it back again next year.

‎Jael-Marie Guy, only 18 years old, spelled the difference for the reigning Southeast Asian Games champion as she facilitated the pair of goals with beautiful crosses.

‎Last Sunday, March 15, the Filipina booters missed their first chance to directly qualify for the World Cup after a humbling 7-0 defeat at the hands of eventual finalist Japan.

‎With the win over Uzbekistan, they didn't only bounce back but ended their tournament campaign on a high note — rather her-storic.
